Tsuanmi

We request pray for all the families of the victims in 11 Asian countries that were devastated by the tsunami on December 26, 2004. This tragedy is considered to be the number one natural disaster in history.

I learned from first hand reports of a fishing village on the coast of the Indian Ocean 45 kilometers from Vijayawada that was totally destroyed. The surveyors have nothing to begin building over again. The loss of their boats meant the loss of their jobs. Oddly enough, the fish are gone! They have no idea where they went. These and the millions of others affected need our prayers and support.

The Sudan Tragedy

Perhaps more devastating than the tsunami tragedy, is the genocide that has been taking place in Sudan. The tsunami was a natural disaster. This tragedy in the Sudan is by the hands of evil men. Christianity Today reports that during a 21 year civil war more than 2 million people are dead. "And yet in Sudan's western Darfur region, systematic killing on a massive scale continues…estimates are that up to 2 million villagers have fled their tribal lands for makeshift camps in Sudan and neighboring Chad. Some 300,000 of them could die over the next few months from malnutrition and disease. Officials estimate 10,000 people are dying each month in Darfur."

What is the 10/40 Window?

Did you know that 97% of the least evangelized countries as well as two-thirds of the world’s population (almost 4 billion people) live in 61 countries within a 10/40 Window?

There is a rectangular-shaped window in the world that extends from West Africa to East Asia, and is bounded by 10* N and 40* N Latitudes. This region is known as “The Resistant Belt” or the “10/40 Window”. The majority of the world’s Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists live in this window, which extends to billions of souls unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:14: "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations (ethne-people groups), and then the end will come."

By use of the term 'People Group' we mean, "a significantly large sociological grouping of individuals who perceive themselves to have a common affinity with one another. From the viewpoint of evangelization, this is the largest possible group within which the gospel can be spread without encountering barriers of understanding or acceptance. There are basically three types:

  1. Ethnolinguistic people group-
  2. Sociological people group-
  3. Incidental people group-

Ethnolinguistic people group is the category we are referring to in terms of evangelism and church planting. Ethnolinguistic people is an ethnic or racial group speaking its own language. A people distinguished by its self-identity with traditions of common descent, history, customs and language.

Of the estimated 12,000 ethnolinguistic peoples, probably over 9,000 already have at least one or two viable indigenous churches within their culture."

FRANCE

"Unlike their British rivals, the French do not have many members of the Hindu world among them. But France has the highest number of Muslims and Jews of any European country. There are peoples from all over the Arabic-speaking world, Muslim West Africans, and Southeast Asian Buddhists in France."

The primary "religion" of France is not Roman Catholicism, but secular humanism. According to statistics, there is a large overlap between the nominal Catholics and the atheists in France. There are a couple of notable efforts to reach the Muslims in France. From March through July of last year, Operation Mobilization sent between 50,000 and 100,000 New Testaments to Muslims in Paris. Christar is an organization that sends well-trained missionaries to spread the gospel through friendship evangelism. Both of these efforts need prayer.

Pray for Muslims of Parish to respond favorably to the New Testaments that they received less than a year ago.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to anoint and empower Christar workers in France.

Pray that the prayer movement for France will result in a major spiritual shakeup that will change France much more, and in a far different direction, than the so-called Enlightenment."
